TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
Eligible projects must originate from one or more laboratories belonging to universities and research organizations within the territory of one of the SATTs.
The call for projects is also open to results obtained within the framework of a research partnership with academic or private partners. The project may also involve teams outside the scope of the SATT partners. In both cases, the results already obtained and the related intellectual property must be free of rights for industrial exploitation. This work on intellectual property will be carried out by the SATTs before the selection or launch of the projects.
The submitted project must be based on initial experimental results and/or simulations that clearly demonstrate the scientific concept. The aim of the project must be to establish that the solution is operational, that it addresses a specific issue, and that it stands out positively from other existing solutions. The maturation project must aim to bring the solution to a stage of development that allows it to be transferred to a third party, i.e., to have demonstrated its added value in a real-world application. SATT staff are available to help research teams define the program and market expectations.
THEMES
In order to meet the expectations of manufacturers in the mechanical engineering industry, the priority themes identified for this call for projects are as follows:
- Sensors for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
- Material and surface integrity: reliability-based design (fatigue, etc.)
- Surveillance and monitoring of systems (industrial processes and/or equipment, etc.)
- Additive manufacturing: material characterization, digital chain upstream of additive manufacturing, product characterization
- Intelligent machines and processes
- Composite materials: design, implementation, characterization and control, composite fatigue, etc.
- Surface: waterproofing, corrosion resistance, surface functionalization, tribology
- Assembly: improving the durability of assemblies, damage criteria, multi-material assembly
- Sensors and Instrumentation for Manufacturing Processes, Fluidic Equipment and Systems
- Clean processes and technologies (eco-technologies, etc.)
- Energy efficiency of components and systems
- Modeling & numerical simulation of multi-physical systems
PROJECT SELECTION
The following criteria will be used to evaluate projects for selection by SATTs, according to their scope, at their sole discretion:
- Expertise of the project leader(s) in the field;
- Identification of application potential;
- Project development stage;
- Identification of intellectual property associated with developments made, and existing third-party rights;
- Economic value created;
- Consistency between the scope of the maturation program (resources, cost) and the potential economic return
The following expenses are eligible for the call for projects:
- Purchase of small equipment dedicated to the project for prototype development
- Purchase of consumables dedicated to the project;
- Recruitment of dedicated project staff;
- Business trip expenses
- Services provided to third parties that are necessary for the completion of the project;
PROJECT EVALUATION
The teams from the 13 SATTs and CETIM's subject matter experts will review the selected applications according to their scope, based on the eligibility criteria listed above and the selection criteria defined below in the call for projects. This evaluation phase will be completed by the end of January 2018, and project leaders will be notified of the results of this evaluation by email. Before selecting a project, the SATT teams may contact the project leader(s) to clarify certain aspects.
The winning projects from this first phase will be invited to an event organized in partnership with mechanical engineering companies linked to CETIM. This exchange with qualified manufacturers will help identify areas of interest that could promote co-maturation. The selected projects (whether or not they involve co-maturation with an industrial partner) may be subject to the development of a more detailed program in conjunction with the project leaders, before an investment decision is made by the SATTs. The time required to develop this program will be determined by the respective SATTs, in consultation with the project leaders.
