Questions

  • Why present my research results to Satt Nord?

To identify their potential for economic exploitation.
The aim is for these results to become innovations and generate a financial return for the institution, the laboratory, the inventors/authors, and the development engineers. If your research results are exploitable, every effort will be made to support their development and increase their economic potential through investment by SATT Nord.

  • How can I present my results at Satt Nord?

Through a declaration of invention (DI) or original creation. The declaration of invention is primarily the basic document that allows any employee to declare inventions to their employer. But it also allows, through the information it contains, to study the potential value of your results, to determine the distribution among inventors, and to prevent potential conflicts.

  • When can I present my research results to Satt Nord?

Once they have reached proof of concept. In the specific case of the healthcare sector, it is best to contact a project manager as soon as a target of interest (therapeutic, diagnostic, etc.) has been identified.
Please note! Before any protection is granted, it is imperative that no written or oral communication about the project is made by you or any of your employees to persons outside your organization who are not bound by confidentiality, regardless of the stage of the project. SATT is your primary contact for this matter.

Intellectual Property: protecting my results

Copyright, patents, design rights, trademark rights... Intellectual property law provides many ways to protect an innovation. How do you know which one is right for which situation?

Register your invention

Protecting your ideas is essential!

The Declaration of Invention is the first step in the process of commercialization. It is an important legal document that must be completed with care. It allows you to present your research results to SATT Nord, which will determine the best protection strategy.

At SATT Nord, the Invention File constitutes the first part of the Invention Declaration.

To this end, you simply need to consider the nature of your innovation: invention AND/OR creation?
You may need to complete one or both of these declarations (for example, if your project involves a new process and the associated software):

  • Inventions relate to technical innovations (technical solutions to technical problems), including:
    • a new product,
    • a new use for an existing product,
    • a new device or machine,
    • a new manufacturing process,
    • a new method of analysis.

  • The creations include:
    • software and/or databases,
    • methods of analysis, learning,
    management, and organization.

Various documents
available to you

Once the invention file and/or original creation declaration has been completed and sent to the project manager, they will initiate the review process for your file within SATT Nord.

We take care of all the formalities. The intellectual property department at SATT Nord will conduct prior art searches and patentability studies, define the best protection strategy, and assist you with filing your patent application if necessary.

The patent is not an end in itself; SATT Nord will also take charge of promoting your work by investing in innovation projects aimed at facilitating its transfer through the creation of start-ups or by granting operating licenses to companies.

Intellectual property and publication of results
: when should I publish my results?

Please note! Before filing any protection, it is imperative that no communication, written or oral, be made regarding your results. Regardless of the stage of the project or the type of intellectual property asset, you or any of your employees may not communicate with persons outside your institution who are not bound by confidentiality.

Once the patent has been filed, it is possible to publish. Find all the answers to your questions in the fact sheet
