INNOVATION SUPPORT SYSTEM

Following thefirstlaunch in October 2023ofthe Call forExpressions of Interest (AMI), an innovation support program launched by CD2E, seven applications presenting projects related to renewable energy and sustainable building were received. Of these seven applications, three projects, including the Commando project supported by SATT Nord, were selected to be taken forward.

The Commando Project

The COMMANDO project, led by SATT Nord and L2EP,  aims to provide solutions to the three key constraints of current converters (compactness, efficiency, and temperature management), based on a matrix converter and offering simple control laws.

The objective and novelty of COMMANDO is to implement a control law that allows the matrix converter to operate under specific conditions, thereby minimizing losses.
The core of this innovation lies in an innovative control process for a type of converter that is still relatively unknown and understudied: the AC/AC matrix converter.

The project has received €240,000 in funding from SATT Nord, which will enable the recruitment of a maturation engineer. A patent application is currently pending.

I have had the good fortune to accompany Arnaud and the COMMANDO project since he was first spotted in March 2023.
The technology was complex to understand. Arnaud showed a lot of patience during the many technical meetings that were necessary to understand how the technology works.
The SATT Nord team quickly realized the potential of the technology, particularly through discussions with manufacturers. Together with Arnaud, we set up a maturation program with the aim of developing a prototype to validate the technology, which until now had only been simulated digitally.
It has been a real pleasure to work with Arnaud since the project was first identified. Arnaud has shown patience and availability and has placed his trust in SATT to support him in the development of his innovation. Many steps have already been taken and there are still many ahead of us, but I have no doubt that this project will be a success thanks to Arnaud's involvement. Nicolas Blaszczyk, SPI SATT Nord Project Manager

"As part of research into improving the efficiency and compactness of electronic converters that manage electrical energy, a very fruitful relationship has been established with SATT Nord, spearheaded by the University of Lille's commercialization department.
The progress of the project, now in its maturation phase, has led to particularly fruitful exchanges with highly involved representatives from SATT, both on technical aspects and on IP protection through patents, the management of constraints on the publication of research results, and market and economic development aspects.
Today, SATT Nord provides essential financial and human support that will enable the transition from proof of concept in simulation to a full-scale physical demonstrator, as well as its implementation in a representative environment thanks to new relationships with regional players. These developments will also certainly make it possible to extend the fields of application of the invention and to foster new industrial partnerships in our research activities."
