Every year, numerous inventions emerge from public research laboratories in the Grand Est region, some of which lead to the creation of startups dedicated to the industrialization and commercialization of these new technologies. While these innovations are very promising, it remains difficult to attract experienced project leaders and build strong business teams to work alongside scientific teams, which are essential factors for the successful launch of these startups and for enabling innovative business incubators to support them. To overcome these obstacles, SATT[1] Conectus, Sayens, and Nord are launching a unique initiative called Team-to-market.fr®, with financial support from the Grand Est region.
The Team-to-market.fr® initiative will be rolled out across the Grand Est region before the summer, thanks to support from the regional authorities. The three SATTs have already identified around fifteen promising innovative technologies that could lead to the creation of deep tech startups.
The aim of the initiative? To identify and implement innovative approaches to spark the interest of future managers in these companies and provide better support to young entrepreneurs. The Team-to-market.fr® initiative aims to identify, build, and nurture a pool of managers specializing in business creation support and candidates motivated by the entrepreneurial adventure.
The profiles sought (executives undergoing career change, interim managers, serial startuppers, business developers, consultants, etc.) must have solid skills and professional experience in business development, strategy, or finance.
They may be recruited for:
- investing in the launch of new deep tech startups based on innovative technologies developed in public research laboratories in the Grand Est region,
- draw up the business plan and take steps to convince investors,
- Act as a mentor and expert to enthusiastic but often inexperienced project leaders (managers shared between several organizations, interim managers, business developers, financial experts, etc.).
- Assess, from the early stages of an innovative project, the viability and relevance of creating a dedicated startup versus the more traditional option of licensing to an existing company.
Enabling more technology startups to emerge and succeed.
Creating a startup based on public research technology remains a complex undertaking. To succeed, it is essential that these science-based startups be built on a solid business team, led by an experienced CEO who knows how to interact effectively with the researcher(s) who invented the technology being exploited. Unfortunately, at present, too few scientists are interested in creating such startups.
As a result, every year, due to a lack of suitable leaders and teams, around fifteen scientific startups fail to get off the ground in the Grand Est region, leaving promising innovative technologies dormant. At the same time, other startups are being created but are struggling to get off the ground due to shortcomings often related to the team (lack of availability, inexperience of the founder and/or the team in place, etc.).
Call for applications
An initial promotional campaign for thisTeam-to-market.fr® initiative will take place before the summer throughout the Grand Est region, primarily targeting all partners in the innovation ecosystem, including, first and foremost, incubators for innovative companies with which SATTs have already established partnerships.
