On May 3, 2016, the SATT Network and AFSSI, the French association representing nearly 130 service and innovation companies (SSI) in the life sciences sector, signed a partnership agreement.
This framework agreement is established for a period of three years and aims to accelerate the transfer of technology and innovation in the life sciences to industry, in particular through the establishment of partnerships between members of the two associations. It covers all activities directly or indirectly related to the commercialization of research results in biotechnology, chemistry, the environment, cosmetology, agri-food, bioinformatics, diagnostics, and clinical trials, with a view to creating economic activity.
The agreement provides for SATTs and volunteer SSIs to be put in touch with each other regarding project opportunities, thereby preventing any risk of unfair competition between private and academic research laboratories.

SATTs, or Technology Transfer Acceleration Companies, are simplified joint stock companies created by several public research institutions through the Investissements d'avenir program. Their purpose is to maximize the socio-economic impact of academic research results and promote job creation in France by simplifying, accelerating, and facilitating the transfer of technology and knowledge from public research to businesses of all sizes. As key local players and trusted partners, SATTs have access to the skills and inventions of public researchers in their region and rely on dedicated professional teams to identify and evaluate these inventions. With a maturation fund of €857 million, unique in France and beyond, SATTs protect these inventions, finance and support innovation projects based on these inventions until they are adopted by companies, bearing the technological and financial risk inherent in these projects.
