The SpiderMass project, developed at the Prism laboratory by researchers Isabelle Fournier and Michel Salzet and supported by SATT Nord, was honored this month. It was the subject of a 17-page article in the journal Cancer Cell and received an award at the 2018 Force Awards.
Article: Real-Time Molecular Diagnosis of Tumors Using Water-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Mass Spectrometry Technology
The SpiderMass project focuses on developing a new mass spectrometry-based tool designed for use in the operating room in vivo and in real time on patients to diagnose and define excision margins with high precision. SpiderMass aims to become a tool to guide surgeons and improve patient care.
In the Cancer Cell publication, researchers demonstrated that the prototype developed enabled typing (and subtyping) and grading of sarcomas. In this project, carried out in close collaboration with OCR, proof of concept was provided for the prototype's operation in the veterinary operating room on canine patients for in vivo analysis and rapid extemporaneous analysis.
